this video was made by my juniors after api.. pretty much highlights what we (myself and men/women from the US Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps.) did during their 1st 6 weeks of their aviation career.. every single US Navy/Marine pilot/NFO and Air Force WSO goes through this course (not to mention other foreign wsos from saudi, s'pore, italy, germany)..

after low levels. its been strikes for me.. flew the vr1031 for my strike 1 with CAPT Rowley on wednesday.. didn't think i did such a good job but apparently, he thought i did well.. weird. composite ground school on thursday. which means i am now legible to do my composite sims and after that, my composite flights.. spent my friday afternoon/evening over alabama, louisiana and mississippi on the vr1024 for strike 2 with LT Sikorski.. fast and furious, ready to hit the weekend.. sucks that weekends are always so short.. flying with CAPT Hodgin and the CO on monday.. 6am brief.. bleah.. somehow, i don't feel as confident to hit this check ride as i did other check rides.. composite flights.. some says it easier since we are just about unrestricted with regards to what to do and where to fly, as long as they are within FAA (federal aviation administration) rules.. but at the same time, i've got to work around 'threat areas' by using mountains, gorges and what not.. awesome.. so long as i don't freeze up and get totally disoriented, comps should be fun.. its been hard and heavy on the workload but hey.. the faster i go, the faster i get my wings! but it'll be great to have some time off once in a while.. i hate sundays.. and mondays even more.

so i'm done with my low level flights.. its been a while since i was up front, watching the tree tops blow by just below my boots. as compared to radar nav flights, time seems to compress way further. even though each leg (radar and low levels) are of about the same duration, LLs always start and end so quickly. all your senses are tingling, your eyeballs dart back and forth, side to side, trying desperately to pick out that darn 300ft tower you used as a checkpoint.. the birds.. the birds.. http://www.usahas.com/ we use the USAF's aviation hazard site to give us a heads up of bird 'density' on a VR route.. apparently, the birds don't check this web site before they leave their nests do they?.. coming up next for me would be my strike flights. combination on air nav (flying up high, making my way to my route entry point on time.. or at least within the +-2mins window), radar and visual navigation (making my way from the route entry point to the target).. i'm advancing at a pretty decent pace.. but i'd rather have a little more breathing space.. fly away.
